LYNX Try Out Days

At LYNX, school is an adventure! The best way to understand our unique, nature-inspired classrooms is to experience them firsthand. We invite students entering Grades 1 through 9 this fall (September 2026) to join us for a FREE LYNX Try Out Day.

Guided by our expert instructional team, your child will participate in engaging, hands-on lessons and outdoor exploration. A typical afternoon includes:

  • Active Creative Play: This is a high-energy start to the afternoon where imagination meets physical movement. Students engage in self-directed, nature-based play that is as physically active as it is creative—think fort building, climbing, and collaborative games.
  • Core Curriculum in Nature: Two focused lessons in Science and Social Studies, led by Alberta certificated teachers who bring the curriculum to life using the environment as their classroom.
  • The Daily Hike: Exploring the local landscape to build physical literacy, endurance, and a deeper connection to the land.

All activities are supported by our dedicated instructional assistants, ensuring a safe, enriching, and high-energy experience for every student.

To maintain our small class sizes and high-quality instruction, we only accommodate a limited number of try out students per day. Please review the two experience options below before selecting your registration link.

Choose Your Experience:

Option 1: Nature Outdoor Classroom (Afternoon Only)

Time: 12:00 (Noon) Drop-off | 3:30 PM Pick-up

Locations:

  • Cochrane: Riverfront Park
  • Okotoks: Lions Park
  • Edmonton: Rundle Park (February), Laurier Park (March and April), Borden Park (May).
  • Calgary: North Glenmore Park

    Cost: Absolutely Free!

    Option 2: Calgary Onsite + Nature Outdoor Classroom Afternoon

    Includes morning onsite programming and transportation to the nature outdoor classroom. Available in Calgary only. Experience our community culture and the transition from our onsite/online classroom to the wild.

    Time: 10:00 AM Drop-off at LYNX School (3311 49 St SW)| 3:30 PM Pick-up at North Glenmore Park

    Cost: Absolutely Free!

    We’ll follow up via email to confirm your specific try out date and provide full arrival details.

    What to Bring:

    • A sturdy backpack with a full water bottle and a hearty snack.

    • Weather-appropriate layers (we suggest the “3-layer rule”: a base layer, a warm middle layer, and a waterproof outer shell).

    • Sturdy footwear suitable for hiking and active play.

    • A change of clothes (just in case the “creative play” gets a little damp or muddy!).
