Erin Hiemstra Teacher - Lead LYNX Calgary

A lifelong resident of the Calgary area, Erin Hiemstra’s passion for the outdoors was ignited during a childhood spent hiking, horseback riding, swimming, and skiing in the nearby foothills and mountains of the Canadian Rockies. This deep connection to the natural world inspired her to earn a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Alberta in 2009.

Driven to share her knowledge and enthusiasm with the next generation, Erin then obtained a Bachelor of Education from the University of Calgary in 2015. Her teaching experience is rich and varied, ranging from teaching math and science in the public junior high system to, most recently, guiding young learners (ages 3-6) in an outdoor-focused Montessori and Forest School program.

Erin is thrilled to join LYNX for the 2025-2026 school year. She looks forward to working with colleagues and students who share her dedication to nature-based education and fostering a love for the world around us.
